Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of eighteen poems, primarily panegyric occasional and epistolary verses, many of which refer to the writer's pleasant country life and invite the dedicatee to return to visit to escape from the oppressive atmosphere of city living. The collection includes verse epistles to Lady Margaret Harley, Duchess of Portland; John, 4th Baron Lovelace; and the Marchioness of Carmarthen on her recovery from small pox. Others are written to a young lady on her intended voyage to the West Indies; to Miss Caesar, sent with a present of stones and shells for a grotto; and written in the Earl of Oxford's library at Wimple in 1729. Other items include a poem titled To a lady in town, soon after her leaving the country; several poems to Chloe; and a longer poem titled An essay on virtue.
